Our Story

Moore-Merkowitz was founded in 1986 in Alfred, New York, by ceramic tile artists Susan Moore and Neil Merkowitz shortly after graduation from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University.

We are ceramic tile makers specializing in decorative relief and field tile in the studio arts tradition. Using artistic techniques and processes, our original designs and glazes bring the beauty and practicality of the ceramic arts to personalized residential and commercial spaces of all kinds. All Moore-Merkowitz tiles are made with care in our production studio in Alfred, New York.

 
 
 
 

OUR STUDIO

Our studio is the heart of our business, a steady pulse of creativity, passion and artistic intention. Nestled in a renovated 1880s barn in the New York countryside, it was formerly the studio of renowned ceramic artist Robert Turner, and has been the origin of ceramic art for more than 70 years. It is here, together with our skilled artisans, we strive to create tiles with a spirit and beauty all their own and to work toward the highest standards of design and craftsmanship.

We use 100% renewable energy to fire our kilns and in all of our manufacturing processes. We hope the love of what we do shines through in the pieces we create.
